After a tough first half of the 2013 MotoGP season, Jorge Lorenzo and HJC were ready to start the second half of the season. Jorge Lorenzo started the weekend by revealing his special edition Indianapolis “GREEN MAMBA” helmet. After revealing the helmet, Lorenzo was ready to take the Green Mamba on the track for the first time.
Receiving a qualifying time of 1’38.471, Jorge Lorenzo landed the 2nd position in the front row. He was behind Marc Marquez who had a qualifying time of 1’37.958 and in front of Dani Pedrosa 1’38.485 qualifying time.
On the race day, Lorenzo and his Green Mamba helmet struck early. Before reaching first turn, Lorenzo was able to take the lead from Marquez who started at pole position. After leading two-thirds of the race Lorenzo’s Yamaha started to skid due to tire wear. At this point, Marquez was able to take the lead with 15 laps left. Lorenzo & the Green Mamba battled hard, however before the end of the race Pedrosa was able to pass Lorenzo on the front straight with 2 laps to go. After a hard fought 27 laps Lorenzo & the Green Mamba were able to finish 3rd and was back on the podium for the first time in over 2 months.
Once the race had ended Jorge Lorenzo stated; “Until the middle of the race, at the same pace as Marc, the bike began to skid a lot, more than ever before, but these things happen and that’s how it is. It’s better to be happy with these points and avoid a fall.”
After 9 rounds Jorge Lorenzo is behind 35 points from the point’s leader Marc Marquez. The next event will be held at the Brno Circuit, in the Czech Republic, on August 25th.
