2013 MotoGP R16, Phillip Island, Australia

Jorge Lorenzo has again surprised everyone with an overwhelming victory that will increase his possibilities of opting for the world championship in the last race of the year in Cheste. The HJC Helmets rider took a risk using a super soft tyre on the rear wheel of his Yamaha and set the pace from the beginning. Despite his scarce experience on dry track with this tyre, the decision was right.

The rider from Mallorca started off like a rocket and was in the lead, taking advantage of the ‘pole position’ of the previous day and did not lose this position at any moment. Valentino Rossi was behind him for two laps until until he made a mistake when braking and then Jorge was fighting alone against the two Honda bikes at his heels. Even Marc tried to attack half way through the race, but was unable to overtake the inspired Yamaha rider, who made no mistakes at all on a very complicated circuit.

Jorge Lorenzo stated: “the extra soft tyre seems worse at first, but it stood up to the test perfectly. Its performance at the end of the race was spectacular. What we were fearing did not happen and I could even speed up at the end of the race and escape from the rest. Perhaps if I I had used another strategy trying to slow down the group, the final result of Marc could have changed. I chose to race as fast as possible on this Honda circuit and we did it”.

This exciting world championship will end in fifteen days on the Cheste circuit in Valencia, where the world championship title will be at stake. Next November 10th, excitement is guaranteed.
